I grew up being extremely passive aggressive, judgmental, and had a very difficult time handling confrontation. Expressing myself wasn't easy, always nervous about the other person's reaction and trying to make sure I said the right thing.
And despite all that, I'm now someone who is more calm, confident and compassionate within my interactions, and can navigate difficult and stressful situations easily.
